Innovation & Research

Our engineers do their best every day to enable Thyssenkrupp Presta to become a market leader with its high quality products. To this end, we carry out the innovative development of our products as well as individual components thereof on a continuous basis, which allows us to supply our customers with the latest tech products, all at the best price and with the most efficient resource and energy consumption.

Innovation is often beyond the scope of local activities, and either in collaboration within the Presta Group, or within the ThyssenKrupp concern, we carry out large-scale innovative projects. For the latter, InCar project is a good example.

InCar project, Integrated Steering System

InCar is a research project in which the ThyssenKrupp Group has developed more than 30 innovations for body, powertrain and chassis. The new solutions improve functionality, reduce weight and cost and help the climate. The "cleanest" innovations can combine to cut greenhouse gas emissions by around 5,500 kilograms per car.

One of the 30 innovations was an Integrated Steering System, where the crossbeam is replaced by a steel steering housing which assumes the crossbeam's support function in full. The newly developed integrated steering system shows how intelligent part integration can reduce weight by 11% and save packaging space while at the same time achieving a 3% cost saving compared with a conventional front axle beam with electromechanical steering.
